The Germanic LyreHarriet uses this lyre, built by Stretch Cole. The instrument is is a re-creation of the 7-string instrument found in the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial.
Lyres were used by the storytellers in the oral tradition of Northern Europe. Harriet incorporates this tradition into her telling of Norse and Germanic stories. Since Harriet is a storyteller, not a singer she does not accompany herself in this way. She does greatly admire Benjamin Bagley and his work with Beowulf (in Anglo Saxon no less). |
