The journey began in the spring of 2108 when Harriet joined the first cohort of teaching artists to particpate in the ASU Gammage Molly Blank Fund Teaching Artist Program. During this journey Harriet deepened her understanding becoming a teaching artist by learning the philosophy and skills of Arts Integration. |
What is Arts Integration?
|
During first Artists as Educators Seminar, Laying a Foundation:Defining Arts Integration Harriet and her fellow teaching artists encountered the Kennedy Center definition of Arts Integration by forming tableaux and creating dances based on their understanding of the process.
The second seminar Anatomy of a Lesson: Designing Instruction was a day filled with information about how teaching works -- how people learn and how best to use this knowledge in an arts integration lesson plan.
The final seminar in this series involved Mapping the Journey: Developing Effective Residencies for Students. During this time, the seminar participants created a residency plan that would be used during the final stage of the the program -- becoming an artist-in-residence in one of the participating schools.
